FPT to co-operate with Nigerian business 

The FPT Group and 21st Century Technologies Inc (21 CT) of Nigeria signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday on strategic co-operation between the two sides.

Under the agreement, FPT will co-operate with 21CT in the fields of telecommunications, education and equipment production.

FPT also plans to seek opportunities in broadband and digital content services along with providing consulting, developing infrastructure and offering services to the Nigerian company.

CMC Infosec launches anti-virus for mobiles 

CMC Information Security Corporation (CMC InfoSec) yesterday launched CMC Mobile Security, a free anti- virus software on mobile phones.

The software will be applied for the Android operating system with simple, user-friendly interface. CMC plans to launch versions for IOS and Window Mobile operating systems in the near future. CMC will provide six-month warranty for CMC Mobile Security for customers after installation.

Mobile phones have become as complex as computers with countless functions, including web searching, sending email, online shopping and financial services, which could risk the security of personal information.

Revenue in post and telecommunications rise

Revenue in the post and telecommunications sector is estimated to reach VND67.8 trillion (US$3.2 billion) in the first six months or 109 per cent compared with the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Information and Communications.

Viet Nam is home to 129.5 million phone subscribers with 14.2 million fixed telephone subscribers, down by 1 per cent against 2010. The number of mobilephone subscribers climbed to 115.3 million, up by 2.3 per cent. The number of Internet subscribers increased by 18 per cent to 4.3 million.

Telecoms and the Internet infrastructure have been rapidly developed with 45,000 locations prepared for base transceiver station installation.

VinaPhone offers free int'l roaming SMS 

As of July 1, VinaPhone has offered free SMS roaming for all its post-paid subscribers while they are abroad.

Accordingly, VinaPhone roaming service allows subscribers to receive calls in all countries that have roaming agreements with the company, without changing SIM cards and mobile phone numbers.

71 million electronic identity cards to be issued

A project to produce, issue and manage new ID cards was approved by the Prime Minister in May, 2004 and the cards will soon be distributed to citizens.

ID cards adhere to international standards with features in a two-dimensional bar code to store basic personal information.

As of the third quarter this year, the Ministry of Public Security will run a pilot project to issue the ID cards with the new technology.

MobiFone offers creative Funring service

MobiFone has started officially introducing attractive features for the creative Funring, available to subscribers of MobiFone nation-wide.

Customers can use online tools available to record songs, then edit and select recordings as ringtones.

Cisco provides Smart Connections to local firm

The networking company Cisco System Viet Nam has signed an agreement to provide HCM City-headquartered M&C real esate firm with its Smart + Connected Communities solution for use in property projects.

The S+CC solution uses the Cisco network as a platform for transformation from physical to connected communities for social, economic and environmental sustainability.

This initiative brings together product and service partners and Cisco solutions to deliver innovations along nine tracks: government services, safety and security, healthcare, education, energy management, transportation, real estate, sports, and entertainment and retail.

IT lifestyle contest promotes Taiwanese brands

An innovative IT-lifestyle contest that uses gadgets of leading Taiwanese brands has been launched simultaneously in three countries – India, Indonesia and Viet Nam.

The contest, called "IT Travellers Go!," is open to people of all ages from the three countries.

After registering at www.ITTravelersGo.com between 11th July and 9th August, contestants will provide photographs, videos, blog entries and other work that provides evidence of their individual talent. 

The final contest for Viet Nam would be conducted offline on ICT Day in HCM City on Septempber 17 to choose four of the "most talented and spontaneous IT travelers".
